“One of Side's finest!”

Superb hotel which is quite new and well maintained in a great location with excellent facilities.

We stayed in the last week of October, which was also the last week before the hotel closed for the winter. Because of this, a lot of the facilities in the hotel were closed, but this didn't affect or holiday as we like to get out and about in the area rather than staying in the hotel 24/7.

The good bits; A great looking hotel catering for families as well as couples. Our room was ideal with two bedrooms, a good sized bathroom, free safe and free mini bar too!
Outside the hotel, the swimming pools and water features were great fun and there was even an adult only pool for those of us without kids who wanted R&R time. A shuttle bus (tractor and trailer) was also on hand to ferry guests back and forward to the beach, with its shallow warm waters and clean sands.

Take a 30 minute walk along the promenade into Side which has a beautiful harbour area, restaurants and cafe bars, as well as the historical ruins and amphitheatre.

The bad bits: It would be unfair to say anything was bad, maybe not to our preference, but that is more opinion than bad experience.
A lot of German guests who were amiable and friendly, but mostly middle eastern, some of which were arrogant, bordering on plain rude (very few British). Once or twice we thought we'd booked into a smoking convention as the groups of smokers outside the main entrance and the outside areas were making the most of the discount cigarettes in Turkey. Having said that, the hotel grounds are extensive with attractive gardens, so there were always chill out areas to relax in.
The food although plentiful and reasonably varied, I found to be lacking imagination. There are however a number of a la carte restaurants (Turkish, Mexican, Italian) which were all inclusive (excluding wine), so this helped to vary the evening meal. We also ate out and the local fare was tasty and well priced.

If I were asked of ways to improve my holiday experience at the hotel, I would have suggested more staff at the bar areas, there were often queues with only one or possibly two staff struggling to cope and I would suggest a major re-think about the entertainment, which was pretty poor by anyone's standards.

Would I return to the Crystal Sunset hotel? ..... No, i'm afraid not. For me, it is too big and impersonal. It has all the bells and whistles but totally devoid of character and atmosphere.

“Canny holiday with the grandkids”

We arrived at the hotel at approx 2230 with tired kids , the reception staff were pleasant and efficient and we were shown promptly to our room . We had booked a side sea view room and in the morning , the sea view was open to interpretation. The room was lovely , spacious, modern with a separate bedroom area for the kids not that that mattered to the 3 year old , he camped in with us for the week , just as well it was a big bed !!. There was a large walk in shower , towels were changed daily, there was also mini fridge with beer water and soft drinks ,again replenished daily . The restaurant was chaotic due to unsupervised children running around but that's parenting , nothing to do with staff. The food was plentiful with a good selection to suit most palates, there was a kids corner with little tables and chairs which was a good idea for little ones. The pool area was lovely , clean and well maintained, getting sun beds was no problem.the slides were appreciated by the eldest grandson and the hubby and there's a lovely water park for the littler ones.the adult only pool looked lovely and peaceful and the bar there was staffed by the lovely Isa who was pleasant ,happy and prompt with your drink. The pool snack bar had a good selection from 12 till 5 and ice cream was plentiful.the Irish bar had self service bottles of beer which is a good idea but also had the usual drinks and the little one loved the popcorn which was available when the footy was on and the barman always made sure he got some. The lobby bar had a good range of cocktails and drinks and was relaxing to sit in . The evening entertainment wasn't to our taste but we did attend the mini disco a couple of times, I think more geared to non English kids . There is a well set up kids club and our 3 year old went but we had to stay with him as he wasn't brave enough yet to be left but plenty of toys to play with . Overall a very good hotel and holiday and I would recommend it for kids.

“Had a great time, again.”

This review is from the perspective of a British couple in our early 30s.

I'll address a couple of the critical themes that appear for this hotel. Firstly, the staff. overall they are fine. They are not going to win any customer service awards but the vast majority of them are polite. There are certainly one or two that are rude and unprofessional but based on my experience they are in the minority and also the same repeat offenders. Most of the time you can laugh this off. The other thing that I would point out is that the British guests are not the key customer demographic here, so it isn't entirely surprising that the staff are better at communicating with other nationalities. I would say that during our stay, there were about 10% Brits, mostly from Scotland. A second issue that runs through these reviews is the behavior of other guests. Similarly to the staff complaints, rude guests are in the minority but, yes, occasionally the buffet is a tad infuriating. Again, most of the time you can laugh this off!

We stayed from 15th to 22nd October and the hotel was on the wind down for the season (we stayed earlier in the season in 2013 as a comparison). in most cases this was not to the detriment of the experience, but if you are considering late October onwards, worth baring in mind (possibly very early season too?).

The best bits - the absolute jewel in the crown is the facilities. the Hotel is only 3 years old and looks great. The highlight is the water facilities. the slides and main pool are superb. There is a really huge selection of food at every meal, although this is slightly repetitive day to day, but even the fussiest of eater would find enough to enjoy. The rooms are excellent as are the restaurants, bars, spa etc. There is a nice beach area, the hotel run a transfer service but this isn't necessary if you are fully functioning, its a 5 minute walk. There is a bar serving food and snacks at the beach which is part of the all inclusive. The walk along the beach path to Side is really nice, and takes about 30-45 mins.

The only other criticism not mentioned already is, at times, a complete lack of ambiance of evening. As I have said, the hotel is on the wind down for the season, but it really would benefit from some background music throughout, in particular the lobby bar and a la carte restaurants as these felt sterile.

Wifi is available throughout.

My 4/5 score is based on value for money and our personal enjoyment. Clearly this isn't a 5 star resort. but a score of 3 is described as average, and we have had a better than average holiday on both visits to this hotel. Relative to the price we paid, this hotel and holiday was fantastic value for money. Whilst the gripes about staff and guests etc do ring true on occasions, we found these to be a really minor inconvenience for such a cheap holiday. At the price we paid, you cannot expect the Ritz experience and I would recommend this hotel to a friend.

"Great for Autumn sunshine"

Excellent for a half term low season family holiday. Very good fun and safe. Lovely staff around the pool.

All inclusive buffet is good and not too crowded in low season.

Entertainment is decent enough.

On the down side the pool is freezing and the a la carte restaurants are very average. The all inclusive wine and spirits are not of the best quality .

All in all though, a great low season short break and pretty much guaranteed weather in October.
