“An English perspective of the Crystal Sunset Luxury Resort and Spa”

We arrived by hire car and were stopped at the gate by security who didn't speak a word of English. She spoke to reception and gave me the phone. I gave the receptionist our details but he could not find any booking for us, not a great start. He told is to come to reception, we went to reception to be faced with the same problem. In the meantime, the very helpful porter was organising drinks for us (it was around 10.30pm so this was very welcome). After a lot of head scratching our booking was found and check-in was dealt with swiftly.

Room
We booked a family room which was on the first floor facing the road. People have commented on the main road. I am not sure why, yes it’s a road, yes there are cars, trucks and bikes on it and yes the balcony doors are not the best but it’s really not that bad. The room was spacious, clean and had everything that you needed. One gripe I would have is that the WiFi only worked in the first part of the room where the children were and didn’t work in the main bedroom.

Pool Area and Slides
We always managed to get a sunbed and you can reserve from 8.30. Conflicting information can be found though as in one place it states no reserving before 7.30 and in another 8.30. You didn’t need to reserve unless you wanted a specific spot (we travelled at the end of September, not sure if this changes in July or August). The pool area is fairly large with areas for quiet and areas to listen to the music and the animation team. The slides were very good and lots of fun, we used them every day. The biggest gripe I had with the pool was that it was absolutely freezing, if you wanted to just stand in it you couldn’t for very long. The animation team would be constantly around you sometimes just chatting and other times hassling you to join in on activities which can sometimes be a bit too much! There are plenty of places you can get a drink around the pool area, Cobra Bar, Relax Adult only Pool Area bar and also the snack bar. I found Isa in the Relax Adult only Pool bar to be very helpful, fun and friendly so I tried to go here whenever possible. Most other staff at the bars seemed miserable but that could have been the language barrier.

Entertainment
I have seen people on TripAdvisor complain about the evening Entertainment, we found this to be excellent and varied.

Bars
All served the same drinks, we found these to be excellent but as others have said can be varied depending on which bar you get them from.

Food
Breakfast – Great variety lots of pastry with spinach though!
Lunch – Didn’t eat in the main restaurant for lunch, we used the snack bars which did tend to serve the same food every day but you did have a reasonable choice. Jacket potatoes were very nice, burgers were ok but no cheese to go with them. Also some nice fruit selections, apples, pears, plums and oranges.
Dinner – Lots of it and the food selection did get better the longer the week went on. The chicken and the Turkey was very tender and tasted good.

The main restaurant did get a bit manic with children running around and people stopping in the main walkway back to your table. Some of the labelling of the food was non-existent or incorrectly labelled and deserts we found to be disappointing.

We were always offered a drink during our evening meal and on most occasions were offered a second.

Beach
We went to the beach on a few occasions, we always walked there and took the shuttle back. It’s about a 10-minute walk (mostly downhill) on arrival though you walked through the beach restaurant so you could grab a drink or some food. There were always plenty of sunbeds available. The water was clear and significantly warmer than the pool.

General
We found most other guest to be courteous but there were some that were just plain rude but the hotel cannot be blamed for this and even the staff complained about them.

All areas of the hotel were well maintained and kept cleaned.

The hotel were starting to pack away for the end of the season. On the 1st October the main restaurant around the pool was closed and everything wrapped and packed away.

We did not use any of the A la Carte restaurants so I cannot comment on these.

We did not use the Cinema, the spa, fitness centre or disco.

English guests are in the minority and this is obvious with the staff, most of them spoke very little or no English which isn’t a major problem but it does make things easier and does contribute to enjoyment of your holiday.

I have said this before about hotels and the same applies here. When checking out we were not asked if we enjoyed our stay, we received no thanks for being a paying guest and staying with the hotel. I would expect this with every hotel, it doesn’t take much to ask a customer if they enjoyed their stay!

“Great Place”

We arrived here after initially checked in at Maya World ( thanks for the favour )see my review of there.
I found this place on Trivago whilst sat in a bar on i pad overlooking the ruins in side.
We arrived via a taxi from side ruins and wow what a welcome. the door was opened by the porter at the hotel, he took are luggage to reception.
The receptionist was so helpful what a difference from Maya World, I explained everything and tried to explain the best I could., she put on the phone to reservations but it was more expensive than Trivago so she just said ok book through the site its better for you wow how helpful,
I did and within 30 minutes we were checked in and even a free upgrade, first impressions were wow this place looks fantastic and it was.
We were taken to the room which overlooked the pool and also had a side view of the sea. Rooms were spotless clean and big , double bed and also had a single bed in room plenty room big balcony safe free of charge, mini bar free of charge wow, wow, wow, great start well done crystal hotels.

Also lunch area with barbeque next to snack area great choice and clean for everyone.
There is also a boat moored in the main swimming pool for al a carte fish restaurant (free but have to book ) and this is good, also other al a carte available Mexican very good, Italian good Asian we didn't go so cant comment also Turkish we didn't go so cant comment. We could have done all al a carte but just didn't bother.
The main buffet restaurant for breakfast and dinner on evening was great loads of choice and is supposed to have adult only section but didn't manage to find that and that was only complaint if you could complain
Bars plenty choice including lobby bar open 24hrs all fine and no complaints at all.
Animation team great and always plenty to do if you want and great news no problem if you don't they don't push you into doing things. All are friendly and all take time out to talk to you and inform you of anything and everything going on, special thanks to Tamara she is great and a super personality.
Beach is literally a nice little stroll about 7 minutes walk or free tractor carriage transfer every 10 minutes to beach and sunset beach bar free fully inclusive for drinks and snacks.
The whole place is a great credit to all at Crystal Sunset and if you have a complaint then you really do have to dig deep and look for it and even then even if you do have a complaint it would be sorted immediately.
To sum up this place is simple There is Something For Everyone And Is A High Standard FATASTIC
Old Side Town At Least 40 Min Walk but plenty stop offs on way and on way back

Thank you to everyone at Crystal Sunset and I would definitely recommend you
Special thanks to all your staff but especially the ones we got to know best ISA, Tamara and almost forgot Mustafa at the lobby bar the singing and dancing barman he was always asking my wife to sing to him
